SPOTLIGHT
Editorial Strategy, Creative Direction, Production, Distribution
I created Spotlight to show donors what financial aid makes possible beyond facts and figures. The publication moves from alumni reflections to graduating students’ stories, ending with a look at the numbers behind the program.
I developed the concept and editorial structure, conducted the interviews, and wrote each story. I also worked closely with the graphic designer, creating the visual concepts and guiding how the photography, quotations, typography, and data came together.
Sent to donors who support financial aid, Spotlight received an enthusiastic response and gave readers a more personal picture of the opportunities their gifts help create.

Last year, during a major debate tournament, a tech failure threatened to bring the entire competition to a halt. In the middle of the chaos, this student stepped in. She redesigned the judging process, built a new scoring system on the spot, and simultaneously coached a younger teammate to her first debate victory. It is a perfect snapshot of her: perfectly calm, intellectually agile, and always elevating the people around her.
She is a formidable scholar. In the world of classical studies, her accomplishments are extraordinary—national champion, multiple perfect papers on national exams, and one of the top students in the country in both Latin and Greek. She sees the untangling of a line of Latin as both a puzzle and a portal—a source of cerebral satisfaction and an opening into larger questions about democracy and the forces shaping our world.
